Starry Night Books

Blog EntryOct 16, '09 8:53 PM
for everyone

I have a soft spot for new authors.  I love picking up "first books" without bothering to read reviews online -- I just read the summary on the back cover before heading over to the counter to pay for it.

Here's why -- there are thousands (maybe millions) of aspiring romance writers out there -- these "first books" have something special in them that caught the attention of publishers -- and I like discovering this by reading their books.

So far, I've had a lot of success with this method -- Sherry Thomas and Tracy Anne Warren are two such authors who I've discovered by bravely buying their first books.

I'm also glad to see that established authors like Susan Elizabeth Phillips are graciously allowing their first books to be reprinted.  For the longest time, "Glitter Baby" by Susan Elizabeth Phillips was considered VHTF (very hard to find) and fetched huge amounts at online auctions.  She recently reprinted it.

Bertrice Small's "The Kadin" was also recently reprinted 31 years after it was first published.  (It was first published in 1978)

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that Lisa Kleypas allows her first 4 books to be reprinted also.  ^_^

Here are a few more "first books" --
Nothing But Scandal by Allegra Gray
The Spymaster's Lady by Joanna Bourne
The Rake's Inherited Courtesan by Ann Lethbridge
